Overview

Use the Wills module to capture information about a client's will and link to an electronic copy, if available.

Create a Will record

  1. Access the Will Create form using one of the following:
    • Click Estate Planning > Wills > Create Wills from the Navigation menu.
    • Click Create New on the Wills List View.
  2. Complete the Will Create Form. See Field Descriptions for information about each field. Fields that have an asterisk (*) are required; you must enter data in the field to save the record.
  3. Click Save to save the record and view its detail page, or click Cancel .

Display a list of Wills

Click Estate Planning > Wills > View Wills.
The Wills List View displays.

Display the details for a Will

Click the name in the Wills List View.
The Will Detail View displays.

Edit Will record information

  1. Access the Will Edit View by doing one of the following:
    • Click Edit in the Will Detail View.
    • Click the edit icon (pencil) associated with the record in the Wills List View.
  2. Update the information. See Field Descriptions for information about each field.
  3. Click Save to update the record.

Suppress one or more Will records

  1. In the Wills List View, click the Selection box associated with the record(s) you want to suppress.
  2. Click Suppress.
    A confirmation box displays.
  3. Click OK.
    The records are suppressed.

You can also suppress a single record by clicking Suppress on the Will Detail View.

Update information related to multiple Will records

  1. In the Wills List View, click the Selection box associated with the records you want to update.
  2. Click Mass Update in the Actions dropdown.

Duplicate will information

Click Duplicate in the Will Detail View. Duplication is a convenient way of creating a similar Will record. You can change and save the information in the duplicate record to create a new record.

Export records

  1. In the Wills List View, click the Selection box associated with the records you want to export.
  2. Click Export in the dropdown and follow the instructions in Exporting data.

Field Definitions

Fields that have an asterisk (*) are required; you must enter data in the field to save the record.

Client

Click the Client associated with this Will record on the Clients Popup List View (displays upon clicking the Selection arrow) or the list of teams matching the character(s) you enter.

Contact

Click the Contact associated with this Will record on the Clients Popup List View (displays upon clicking the Selection arrow) or the list of teams matching the character(s) you enter. This is the person to whom the Will applies.

Will*

Enter a brief description of the will. This is a mandatory field.

Date of Will

On the Date Selector click the date the will was signed.

File

Click Choose File and navigate to and select your will file.
The file name displays in the Select File box.

Governing State

Enter the state that governs the will.

On File

Click this check box if the will is on file with the firm.

Self Proving

Click this checkbox if this is a self-proving will.

Organ Donor

Click this checkbox if the client is an organ donor.

Homestead Declaration

Enter the date of the declaration of homestead. A homestead declaration protects home equity from creditors.

Homestead On File

Click the checkbox if the homestead declaration is on file at the firm.

Representatives section

Attorney

Enter the name of the attorney or law office associated with this will.

Executor

Enter the name of the person who will administer the estate.

Successor

Enter the name of the successor executor who will administer the estate in the event that the executor is not able to perform those duties.

Guardianship section

Guardian Required

Click this checkbox if the contact has minor children.

Guardian

Enter the name of the person or persons who will become the legal guardians of the children.

Guardian Backup

Enter the name of the person or persons who will become the legal guardians of the children if the original guardian not able to accept them.

Notes section

Provisions

Enter any special provisions contained in the will.

Assigned to

By default, the record is assigned to the creator of the Will record. To change the assignment, click the user on the Users Popup List View (displays upon clicking the Selection arrow) or the list of users matching the character(s) you enter.

Description

Enter additional details about the will.

Teams

By default, your private team is assigned as the primary team. To change the primary team assignment, click the team on the Teams Popup List View (displays upon clicking the Selection arrow) or the list of teams matching the character(s) you enter.

To assign additional teams to the Will, click add (+) and click the team as described above. For more information on assigning teams, see Assigning Users and Teams to Records.
