Overview

Use the Targets Module to track and manage targets as part of mass marketing campaigns. You can create many types of campaigns as described in Creating a Campaign.

A target is an individual that you have some information on, but is not qualified as a lead or contact. Targets are stand-alone records that are not attached to contacts, leads, or opportunities. For more information on Target Lists, see Target Lists Module.

A mass marketing campaign targets a large group of individuals or organizations. Therefore, the campaign process begins with identifying the targets. You can group multiple targets into a target list according to a set of predetermined criteria such as age group or spending habits.

Typically, you would create or import a target list, associate it with targets, and then associate it with a campaign. However, you can also create the campaign first and then associate it with a target list.

You can associate a record with an existing campaign from Contacts, Leads, and Opportunities.

Create a Target record

  1. Access the Target Create form using one of the following:
    • Click Sales & Marketing > Targets > Create Target from the Navigation menu.
    • Click Create New on the Targets List View.
  2. Complete the Target Create Form. See Field Descriptions for information about each field. Fields that have an asterisk (*) are required; you must enter data in the field to save the record.
  3. Click Save to save the record and view its detail page, or click Cancel .

You can now add the target to an existing target list. The Targets Detail View displays the Campaign Log sub-panel which lists all the campaigns that were sent to the target.

Display a list of targets

Click Sales & Marketing > Targets > View Targets.
The Targets List View displays.

Display the details for a target

Click the name in the Targets List View.
The Target Detail View displays.

Edit target information

  1. Access the Target Edit View by doing one of the following:
    • Click Edit in the Target Detail View.
    • Click the edit icon (pencil) associated with the record in the Targets List View.
  2. Update the information. See Field Descriptions for information about each field.
  3. Click Save to update the record.

Suppress one or more records

  1. In the Targets List View, click the Selection box associated with the record(s) you want to suppress.
  2. Click Suppress.
    A confirmation box displays.
  3. Click OK.
    The records are suppressed.

You can also suppress a single record by clicking Suppress on the Target Detail View.

Update information related to multiple targets

  1. In the Targets List View, click the Selection box associated with the records you want to update.
  2. Click Mass Update in the Actions dropdown.

Duplicate target information

Click Duplicate in the Targets Detail View. Duplication is a convenient way of creating a similar target. You can change and save the information in the duplicate record to create a new record.

Import Target records

  1. Click Sales & Marketing > Target > Import Targets from the Navigation menu.
  2. Follow the instructions in Importing data.

Export records

  1. In the Targets List View, click the Selection box associated with the records you want to export.
  2. Click Export in the dropdown and follow the instructions in Exporting data.

Send an email to one or more targets

  1. In the Targets List View, click the Selection box associated with the targets you want to email.
  2. Click Email in the dropdown and follow the instructions in Emails to compose and send an email.

Add one or more targets to a target list

  1. In the Targets List View, click the Selection box associated with the targets you want to add to the target list.
  2. Click Add to Target List in the dropdown and follow the instructions in Campaigns.

Convert a target to a lead

In the Targets Detail View Actions dropdown click Convert Target. The Convert Lead form displays. The Create Client checkbox is pre-selected by the system to create a new account for the lead. You can also create other related records such as a note, task, and opportunity if the administrator has enabled you to do so.

Field Descriptions

Fields that have an asterisk (*) are required; you must enter data in the field to save the record.

First Name

Click the target's title and enter the target's first name.

Home Phone

Enter the target's home phone.

Last Name*

Enter the target's last name. This is a mandatory field.

Work Phone

Enter the target's work phone number.

Salutation

Enter the name to use when addressing the target; e.g., for John J. Smith, the salutation would be Jack.

Mobile Phone

Enter the target's mobile phone number.

Email Address

Enter the email address for the contacts and campaign targets within the organization. Click Invalid to indicate an incorrect email address. If you sent out campaign emails to this contact and the individual chose to opt-out of receiving them, click Opted Out. To add an additional email address, click the Add icon. You can add multiple email addresses.

Fax

Enter the target's preferred fax number.

Primary Address

Enter the target's primary address, usually the mailing address.

Alternate Address

Enter an alternate address for this target.

Description

Enter additional details about the target.

More Information section

Do Not Call

Click this checkbox to add the target's name to the Do Not Call list. This is to ensure that the target is not contacted through the phone during campaigns.

Assigned to

By default, the record is assigned to the creator of the target record. To change the assignment, click the user on the Users Popup List View (displays upon clicking the Selection arrow) or the list of users matching the character(s) you enter.

Do Not Email

Click this checkbox to add the target's name to the Do Not Call list. This is to ensure that the target is not contacted through email during campaigns.

Teams*

By default, your private team is assigned as the primary team. To change the primary team assignment, click the team on the Teams Popup List View (displays upon clicking the Selection arrow) or the list of teams matching the character(s) you enter.

To assign additional teams to the target record click add (+) and click the team as described above. For more information on assigning teams, see Assigning Users and Teams to Records.

This is a mandatory field; you must assign a Team.
