Solutions for Remote Access
For those customers who need portability but aren't ready to go to a web-based solution, here are some alternate remote access options for running ProTracker Advantage.
Pros: Easiest to setup and use, Connects from anywhere internet access is available.
Cons: Requires computer/monitor in the office for each user.
Cost: Free to $10+/ month
VPN (Virtual Private Network)
Use a VPN and Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) to connect to a computer in the office that has your programs on it.
Pros: Easy to use, Connects from anywhere internet access is available.
Cons: Requires some IT experience to setup.
Cost: VPN setup, RDC is free to $10+/ month
Pros: Easy to use, Connect from anywhere internet access is available. If ProTracker Advantage is "published", running it from tablet or phone is possible. IT support is the responsibility of the host. No local hardware or server required.
Cons: More costly
Cost: ~$150+/month per user
Purchase and install a Terminal Server on your server to support multiple users without each one requiring their own separate hardware. Connect using a VPN or via the internet depending on how it is configured.
Pros: Easy to use, Connects from anywhere internet access is available. No individual office computer/monitor required.
Cons: Responsibility for administering the server is left to the firm or their IT support. Requires IT experience to setup.
Cost: Terminal Server software
SQL Server Hosting
Use SQL Server database hosting to install your SQL database there. Connect to the Advantage database from whatever machine you use that has Advantage installed from anywhere. (Amazon, RackSpace, etc).
Please note that this method is not recommended due to latency.
Pros: Connects from anywhere internet access is available. Uses ProTracker Advantage to connect
Cons: More costly and performance will be impacted because Advantage expects to work with more local databases. Customer would work directly with hosting company.
Cost: $65+/month per database
